Launched in 1981 by Michel Lâg in the Occitan country, Lâg Guitars started as a French manufacturer of electric guitars. Decades later, Algam – a major player in the MI distribution – made its arrival into the story. With a strong desire to reconnect with production, Algam turned Lâg Guitars into a thriving brand of acoustic guitars, recognised for their elegance and sound.

Nowadays, the brand offers high quality acoustic guitars to all musicians across the globe, thanks to a high-end guitar factory, the help of the luthier Maurice Dupont and a particular attention to design.

FAQs

Our guitars are sold in over 40 countries worldwide. You can find the list of our official dealers here – https://www.lagguitars.com/en/dealers/

It is not surprising that at a time when our old telephone had transformed into a brilliant smartphone, a similar phenomenon can finally be achieved with the guitar. The SmartLâg consists of a purely acoustic Lâg guitar integrating the HyVibe system. The system works in three steps:

  • The sensor: a highly sensitive piezo sensor located under the saddle picks up the signal from the strings and sends it to the processor.
  • The processor: The low-latency system of the HyVibe processor takes the signal from the sensor, adjusts the sound, cancels feedback and sends the signal back to the actuators.
  • Actuators: actuators are located below the top of the guitar, underneath the bridge. This provides the purest acoustic sound from the natural resonance of the guitar.

All of this gives the guitarist the ability to turn a fully acoustic guitar into an acoustic guitar with effects, a looper, or even into a Bluetooth speaker. With no amps, pedals or cables!

We use different types of woods for our guitars. For the tops, it can be solid Engelmann Spruce, solid Red Cedar, solid Khaya or Pale Brankowood. For back and sides, we use either khaya, flamed ovangkol, rosewood or smoked eucalyptus. Each combination provides a different sound and a different aesthetic.

Pale BrankoWood is the solution Lâg Guitars found to prevent deforestation. Developed by Branko Hermescee, BrankoWood is a tropicalized wood made from Radiata Pine, a short-cycle pine. The wood is processed (dried, impregnated by a resine and pigments, dried again and then compressed) to obtain a certain density – that of either ebony, rosewood, or spruce. It gives us a very stable wood that is resistant to temperature changes, humidity, UV radiations but also termites. The Pale BrankoWood – with the density of Spruce – can now be used to build guitar tops and offer a unique instrument in terms of looks, sound and resistance.

All our Lâg Guitars are designed in France. They are then built in our own Lâg factory in Tianjin, China, optimised with the help of the well-known luthier Maurice Dupont (Meilleur Ouvrier de France). And as our Canadian distributor said after visiting our factory, “This is not a Chinese factory, this is a true Custom Shop!”

A particular attention to design and detail makes Lâg guitars so unique: a rosette inspired by high jewelry necklace, a harmonious curved headstock shape that mirrors the bridge, rounded body binding and the perfectly matched trio headstock – bridge – fretboard. Added to innovative technologies and selected woods, there is no wondering why Lâg guitars are so special.
